Bansko Town

Bansko is the largest ski resort in Bulgaria. It is also the oldest and has a beautiful, quaint old town with over 10,000 people inhabiting the town all year round. There are numerous shops, plentiful bars and restaurants and it has a lovely safe feel about it. Please don’t believe what people tell you about their visit “10 years ago” or the food being poor. Bansko is very, very modern (not the old town of course, which maintains its narrow cobbled streets and charm) with new chair lifts and the food in the restaurants in the old town is fantastic and extremely cheap. There are plenty of vegetarian options on the menus too! There are also nightclubs, a casino, an ice skating rink and a bowling alley.

What is there to do there?

Plenty! Ski / board / gamble / ice skate / walk / fishing / mountain bike / relaxing spa’s / shop / hunt / rest / and of course GOLF

The skiing is superb and getting better. The black runs are awesome, the offpiste excellent. The resort started with limited runs, but has increased each year to have 70 kilometres last year and further runs planned.

Snowboarders are most welcome as are cross country skiers and walkers.

The town is also gearing it self up to become a summer resort, with mountain biking, walking, fishing and hunting a few of the attractions.

Bankso town has approved the construction of two full size 18 hole golf courses, one designed by Ian Woosnam. The Woosnam course is finished and there are regular tournaments being held.

The valley below Bansko is the Razlog valley. There are a number of golf courses planned as the district continues it quest to become a major golfing centre from March until November. Perhaps what isn’t well known is that the weather in the summer is beautiful, warm and sunny.
